Catching red fish in the back waters of New Orleans marshes . April is the beginning of the peak season for us here in Lafitte. Fishing waters that are less than 3 feet and full of small islands . Perfect habitat for red fish and the bait fish they feed on. Catching red fish in these areas is exciting since the water is clear and we see lots of fish to cast on.
Mostly fishing with artificial swim baits in these areas. We do use market bait at times when the water gets muddy from high winds. Either way the results are the same, line screaming action from these hard fighting reds. Here in the last couple weeks the fish have been two sizes. 16″-18″ or 23″-26″ and every now and then we hook a 28″+ stud.
Fishing has been great lately with the weather being nothing short of perfect. We do get the occasional shower but that’s mostly in the evenings . As the weather gets into a summer time pattern the fishing will continue to get better. If that is possible .
So far its been a great year for business and fishing . I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out fishing a Nawlins good time and making this possible. I truly have the best customers a fishing guide could ask for . I look forward to seeing everyone again someday.
