September red fishing in New Orleans

by | Sep 5, 2017

September red fishing in New Orleans is much like fishing here in August. In August we had some really good days of catching limits of red fish. The weather was for the most part unseasonably cooler . Now don’t get me wrong , it was still plenty warm but it wasn’t smoldering hot like most years in august . The over cast and nice breeze most days kept the heat from getting unbearable .

August fishing is mostly for red fish since the trout are out towards the Gulf . September will be a transition month for the specks and we should start to see a few getting closer as the water temps cool down. As a matter of fact we caught a few the last couple days out . Since we caught out limits of red fish pretty quick , we ventured out to search for a some speckle trout. To our surprise we found some birds diving on popping shrimp and were able to box a around 30 trout both days .

Last Month was a decent month for us and we were able to make quite a few new friend as well as catching up with several returning friend. I look forward to September being pretty much the same way. The fishing will be good with boxes of red fish and speckle trout returning to the dock each day.  We’re still fishing the bays and lakes for the red fish since the water in the marshes are to warm for a productive bite.
